Ijumu LGA Restricts Public Gathering to 30 Persons

Ijumu Local Government restricts gathering of more than 30 people.

Sequel to the directive of the Kogi State Government, The senior special assistant on security of Ijumu Local Government, Hon.Taufiq Isa restricts large gathering of more than thirty people, religious activities and social events in the nook and crannies of the local government.

As part of measures to protect residents from, and slow down the spread of the coronavirus disease,the head of security in the local government is restricting religious services and all form of large gatherings.

Henceforth,Imams are advised not to hold Jumua’at services,members of the public are encouraged to pray at home,and not congregate as is the practice in normal times.The local government hereby directs that all daily congregational prayers should be suspended until the coronavirus situation is clearly contained.

Pastors as well as congregants are expected to abide by public health advice and avoid gatherings in churches. Other means of worship and fellowship should be adopted in much smaller numbers of not more than 10 persons, for now.

As part of the directive of the state government to close down all schools, all nursery and primary schools, secondary schools should abide by the directive.

These measures to contain the spread of coronavirus mean that social gatherings in parties, bars,public parks,political parties are suspended untill further notice.

The Local Government security aide urges all citizens, including religious, security agencies,traditional and community leaders to do their duty in supporting these measures which will help in protecting the larger society from coronavirus.

COVID-19 Will Soon Expire, Kogi Based Pastor

The Resident Pastor of Living God Family Gospel Church, Pastor Israel Subuloye says the dreaded Covid-19 that has killed thousands of people around the world will soon expire.

Pastor Subuloye while addressing Congregation Sunday described the Virus as a Plague targeted by the devil to kill people around the world.

The clergyman who sympathized with family of those that have lost loved ones as a result of the Virus, prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

He called on government at all levels to be more proactive in the fight against the disease, urging them people to take precautions as given by health officials.

According to him,  Covid-19 is real and advised the people to always observe personal hygiene and as well wash their hands and be more prayerful.

Pastor Subuloye advised Christians to pray with the whole of Psalms 91, saying God has promised that “no disease will come near you”.

Dr. Toyin Akanle Condoles Governor Yahaya Bello Over Mother’s Death

I, Dr. Toyin Akanle, mni on behalf of my family and members of Team Akanle Political Support Group hereby condole with His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State over the death of his beloved mother, Hajia Hauwau Oziohu Bello.

We know what it takes to lose a mother and we in Team Akanle received the news of the demise of your mother with rude shock.

Though death is a necessary end for all mortals, Hajia Hauwau Oziohu Bello died when His Excellency needed her wise and motherly counsel most.

No doubt that the deceased lived a fulfilled life worthy of emulation and her death has created a vacuum too difficult to fill.

Team Akanle is saddened by this great loss and we pray God grant the family the fortitude to bear the grief.

We sympathize with Governor Yahaya Bello, the entire Alhaji Bello Ipemida family and the people of the state over this loss.

Our prayer is that God grant the deceased Aljana fridaus and may God forgive her short comings.

Olujumu Mourns Governor Yahaya Bello’s Mother

I, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom and Chairman Ijumu Local Government Area Traditional Council, on behalf of the Council and the people of Ijumu Local Government commiserates with His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello over the demise of his mother, Hajia Hauwau Oziohu Bello who died on 15th March 2020.
I received the news of the death of the Mother of His Excellency and indeed Kogi Mother with rude shock as she died when her wealth wisdom is needed to move the State forward.
Though death is inevitable for all mortals, the Mother of His Excellency is a good mother as she has produced a Godly, humble and God fearing son in the person of Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
I sympathize with the Governor and the entire Alhaji Bello Ipemida Ochi family on this unfortunate loss .
May Allah grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and the deceased Aljana fridaus.

Kogi To Sustain Community Policing Policy- Omodara

Kogi State Government on Monday says it will sustain its community policing policy towards getting more intelligence gathering to ensure that the state is better secured from criminality.

The State Security Adviser, Retired Commander Jerry Omodara made this known when he received a delegation from Apaa and Agbede in Kabba/Bunu and Oshokoshoko in Lokoja Local Government Areas visited him in his office in Lokoja.
Commander Omodara said government has resolved to continue to use Local hunters for improved security of lives and property.

“We have been using Hunters for Intelligence gathering and this has helped us greatly, Government will continue to use them for the implementation of our community policing strategy.”

He directed Traditional Rulers across the state to henceforth liaise with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs before accommodating strangers in their respective communities.

The State Security Adviser restated that government will not hesitate to demolish any building housing criminals and warned landlords and hoteliers to be mindful of their tenants and guests respectively.

According to him, Kogi is the safest state in the entire North Central, saying the feat could only be achieved due to the support given by Governor Yahaya Bello and other security stakeholders.

“No doubt His Excellency has been very supportive to issues of security, We have reviewed our security architecture and it is yielding positive results”.
Earlier, the spokesman for the communities, Chief Samuel Omosayi said the visit was to congratulate Commander Jerry Omodara on his reappointment by Governor Yahaya Bello.

“we are here to formally congratulate you on your well deserved reappointment as the State Security Adviser… We appreciate all your roles been played last year when we called on you that we could no longer sleep with our two eyes closed as a result of armed robbery and kidnapping… You quickly responded by sending to us security men to quench the trembling and mayhem situation for us” Chief Omosayi said.

He praised Governor Yahaya Bello for his effort towards the establishment of Mobile Police squadron along Kabba-Obajana road and assured of their unalloyed support and loyalty.

“Want to commended the State Government for the proactive step taken by establishing Mobile Police Squadron base on Obajana-Kabba road, we are very grateful”. The Spokesman added.

NGO Gives Scholarships to 500 Nigerian Students

A Non Governmental Organization, APS Youth Foundation has provided scholarship of different kinds to about 500 Nigerian students in Secondary and tertiary Institutions across the country.

The Chairman of the Foundation, Otunba APS Arogundade made this known while speaking with Newsmen at Iyara, Headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area, Kogi State.

Otunba Arogundade who stated that the foundation was established years ago to give back to the society, has provided a platform for youths who form the largest population in the country to achieve their academic pursuits.

According to him, beneficiaries of the Foundation’s benevolence cut across both within and outside the country, saying 68 students are currently been sponsored in Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in the Country.

He noted that the foundation has concluded plans to pay the WAEC fees of 21 Secondary School Student in each Community across Ijumu Local Government Area, assuring that those who are outstanding will be given Scholarships up to PhD level in any University in Nigeria and abroad.
“We have distributed laptops to students from Okun Origin who studied law in Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba because we noticed that it will aid their proficiency for optimum performance and we gave 1 million Naira to Management of the School to distribute to outstanding Okun Students in that school.” He added.
Otunba Arogundade explained that the Foundation is not only focusing on youths as many widows have been empowered with cash of millions of Naira as business capital.
“For the widows, we don’t just want to give them fish but we want to teach them how to catch fish and be self reliant.” Otunba Arogundade noted.

The Chairman however charged the 21 secondary school students to study hard and avoid acts that are inimical to achieving great success in life.
In a remark, the Coordinator of the Foundation, Hon. Oyewole Mayowa Solomon congratulated the benefiting Secondary school students and their parents, urging them to be focused and record remarkable success in this year’s WAEC.
According to Hon. Solomon, the beneficiaries will be strictly monitored, adding that achieving a bright future is possible through hard work.

Responding on behalf of the students, Omolola Jacob thanked Otunba APS Arogundade for the gesture and promised not to let him down.

Kogi Immediate Past SUBEB Boss, Oshatimehi Delivers Ogbe Ward to APC

The immediate past Executive Chairman of Kogi State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Mrs. Deborah Alaba Oshatimehi has delivered her Ward, Ogbe in Yagba West Local Government Area to the ruling All Progressives Congress APC.

The people of Ogbe showed their love for the former SUBEB Chairman and the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for the honour done their daughter.

With the victory at Ogbe Ward, Mrs. Oshatimehi has again demonstrated that she is a grassroots politician.

Speaking with Newsmen, Mrs. Oshatimehi expressed gratitude to God for the victory, describing it as a right step towards the re-election of Governor Bello.

16 Council Boss in EFCC Net for Fraud

Nigeria’s anti-fraud office on Friday said it is questioning 16 chairmen of different local governments in Kwara State for alleged misappropriation of N4 billion loan and the state’s internally generated revenue.

EFCC’s spokesman Wilson Uwujaren said the agency gathered that the chairmen after securing the controversial loans, held a meeting and decided that N100m will be shared among themselves from the loan.

The chairmen listed are Risikat Opakunle, Saidu Yaru Musa, Umar Belle, Ayeni Dallas, Fatai Adeniyi Garba, Lah Abdulmumeen, Raliat Funmi Salau, Aminat Omodara, Muyiwa Oladipo.

Others are, Oladipo Omole, Abdullahi Abubakar Bata, Saka Eleyele, Lateef Gbadamosi, Oni Adebayo Joseph, Omokanye Joshua Olatunji and Jibril Salihu.

“The chairmen on the 7th of February 2018 wrote to the Ilorin branch manager of Sterling Bank requesting a N4bn loan in order to pay the salary arrears of the State Universal Basic Education Board teachers, local government staff and the local government pensioners, while the provisions for N100m for council chairmen were not appropriated in the request,” EFCC claimed.
