Kogi ALGON Boss Solicits More Support for GYB Reelection

Kogi State ALGON Chairman, Taufiq Isa earlier today led a powerful delegation of the All Progressives Congress APC to Egbeda-Egga in Ijumu LGA, one of the stronghold of PDP to convince major actors to join the ruling party.

The delegation paid Chief Fatoba( an elder statesman) a visit to convince and makes him see reasons why Ijumu should support Gov. Yahaya Bello’s 2nd term ambition.

Chief Fatoba in his reaction appreciate the delegation and commend their effort. He stated that no progressive Okun son will vote against GYB having in mind that we have so much agitate for power shift.

He urge the delegation to travel far and near to spread the gospel of GYB continuity.

He pledge his total support to work for APC and mobilize massively for the reelection of Bello/Onoja Ticket!

Gov. Bello, Kolawole and Prof. Ale to attend Ijumu Day 2019 at Iyara

Activities marking the 2019 Ijumu Day Celebration begins tomorrow 4th October with a Colloquium at Iyara Town Hall, Ijumu Local Government Area, Kogi State.

A statement by the National President of Ijumu Development Union IDU, Mr. Taiye Atibioke explained that the Colloquium entitled “Politics and Security in Ijumu Kingdom” will be chaired by Barr. Femi Mokikan, National President, Okun Development Association ODA with various Speakers to speak on different sub-topics.

The Friday Colloquium will commence at 10 O’clock in the morning morning at Iyara Town Hall.

The Grand Finale comes up the following day with the celebration of Ijumu Cultural Heritage, Launch of 25 Million Naira for the Completion of Ijumu Unity House and presentation of awards to deserving sons and daughters of Ijumu Kingdom.

Those expected are: His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello as Special Guest of Honour with the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly as Chief Launcher while Professor Sam Ale is the Chairman of the occasion.

Others are: Mrs. Kudirat Olaiya as Chairperson, Hon. T. J Yusuf, Guest of Honour, Chief Funmilayo Bodunde, Mother of the Day with Alhaji Taofiq Isa and Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni as Chief Host and Royal Father of the day respectively.

The rest are Senator Smart Adeyemi, Senator Dino Melaye, Hon. Olusola Kilani and other prominent Ijumu sons and daughters from all walks of life.

The epoch making event will hold at Olujumu’s Palace at 10am.

Representatives from all communities are expected also.

AYETORO GBEDE OBA IN COUNCIL TO INSTALL HAJIA TOLANI SALAWU AS THE FIRST IYALODE

The Oba in council under the leadership of Oba David S. Ehindero, The Olu of Ayetoro Gbede and Regent Olugbede of Gbede Land, has concluded plans to confer the prestigious chieftaincy title of IYALODE on the prolific Author and Philanthropist Hajia (Mrs) Tolani Salawu, come Saturday October 26th 2019 at Ayetoro Gbede Township Hall.

Iyálóde; means ”queen of women”.
She is the first lady of the ruling council in the Yoruba setting. The Iyálòde is a title bestowed on the most influential, prominent woman in the Yoruba community by the Òba. She is usually a respected woman. An instrument of the Òba. Iyalode is the spoke person when it comes to political demands on behalf of the women folks.

The Iyálòde influences the women folks on matters relating to peace, unity and development of the community. She rapport with the Òba and council of chiefs on behalf of the women, gives feedback on the views of the women concerning sensitive issues or what their expectations as the mothers to the community are.

As time goes on, it may be deem necessary to begin to have assistance or lieutenants; otun iyalode, oshi iyalode and èkèrin iyalode to assist the Iyalode in her duties. This selections are done by the iyálòde and the council of chiefs and approved by the Òba.

Notable iyálòde of Yoruba land in the 18th century iyalode Subuola, Efunsetan Aniwura of Ibadan and Madam Efunroye Tinubu of Lagos respectively.

The choice of Hajia(Mrs) Tolani Salawu as the Iyalode is also in recognition of her philanthropy, positive contributions to human development, and promotion of peace and unity in the community.

In line with the established process of filling such an important position, council of chiefs and development wings of Ayetoro Gbede have sought Hajia’s consent in this regard on behalf of the selection committee and she has presented her acceptance to the selection committee for final ratification.

IDU Congratulates  Folashade Yemi-Esan, hails PMB on her appointment as Acting HOS

The National Executive Committee of Ijumu Development Union has congratulated Dr Mrs Folashade Yemi-Esan, her family, Ikoyi Community, the entire good people of Ijumu Kingdom on her appointment as Ag Head of Service of the Federation by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement by the National President of IDU, Mr. Taiye Atibioke prayed for God’s wisdom and strength to carry out her new duty c.

“As we proudly associate with you on this occasion of your elevation,we are sure that you will do us more proud.” the statement reads.

We also felicitate with HRM Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni, the Olujumu of Ijumu kingdom, that his reign shall continue to usher peace and progress in our kingdom.

Security Agents Rescue Twelve Persons Kidnapped in Ijumu LGA

The Joint Security task force comprising the Army, Civil defense, Nigerian Police and Vigilantes Yesterday rescued twelve victims kidnappers along Iyara-Iyamoye road in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

At the early hours of yesterday, a combined team of the aforementioned task force acted on an Intelligence report and raided criminal hideouts along Iyara-Iyamoye road.

During the Operation, The Drum Reporters gathered that, the criminals opened fire on the joint security task force.

The Administrator of Ijumu Local Government, Hon.Taufiq Isa led the operation in a carefully planned and well coordinated raid on criminal hideouts.

Hon. Isa who is also the Kogi State ALGON Chairman enjoined the people of the Local Government to continue to support the security agencies with relevant information that will help us overcome security challenges.

Ijumu Day Holds 4th-5th October 2019

Activities marking this year’s Ijumu Day Celebration begin with a Colloquium on Friday, 4th October 2019.

The Colloquium will hold at Iyara Town Hall beginning at 10am.

The grand Finale which is Ijumu Day will take place the following day at the Palace of the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom at 10am.

Dignitaries from all walks of life including His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the Executive Kogi of Kogi State friends and eminent sons and daughters of Ijumu are expected to graced the occasion.

The event is aimed at celebrating the cultural heritage of Ijumu Kingdom and fostering unity and peace.

Heavy Rains Rock Havoc in Iyara, Ijumu LGA

A heavy downpour last Tuesday washed a part of the Iyara-Odokoro Gbede road, the route that link the Ijumu Local Government Headquarters to Gbede axis.

The rain which fell for hours has divided the road into two, hindering farmers from going to farm and carrying their farm produce to the market.

When The Drum Reporters visited the scene, it was observed that the road needs urgent attention of relevant authorities.

Speaking with Our Reporter, the National Public Relations Officer of Iyara Development Movement (IDM) Mr. Ajayi David Leke appealed to government to urgently come to their rescue.

Mr. Leke said the damage caused as a result of the heavy rains was beyond the ability of the community, hence the need for quick step to restore easy movement of people and their farm produce.

According to him, most people in Iyara are farmers, adding that if the road is not rehabilitated, food scarcity might hit the community

Yomi Awoniyi, Toyin Akanle others storm  Former Ijumu Vice Chairman’s Daughter Wedding.

Dignitaries and well wishers including the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Architect Yomi Awoniyi, All Progressives Congress Chieftain, Dr. Toyin Akanle among others today attended the wedding of the Daughter of the Director General of Team Akanle Campaign Organization at Ayetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area.

The event which was well attended by family of the groom and bride’s family and friends had leaders and supporters of APC and PDP in attendance.

The Chairman of the Occasion, Dr. Toyin Akanle who lead the Team Akanle Family congratulated the new couple, Pastor and Mrs. Edward on their new journey of life.

Dr. Akanle advised them to build their home on love, trust and doing things in common.

Speaking, the Bride’s Father, Pastor Dayo Akanmode expressed happiness for witnessing the event and advised the new couple to love one another at all times.

Olujumu Congratulates Muslims on Eid-el Kabir

The Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni has congratulated Muslims on the Eid-el Kabir celebration.

The Paramount ruler in a statement of felicitation today congratulated Muslims on the celebration of the festival of Sacrifice and Obedience.

Oba Ayeni also felicitated with the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, other members of the state executive council, Ohinoyi of Ebira land, Alhaji Ado Ibrahim, Ohimege Igu of Koton-Karfe, Alhaji Abdulrazak Isah-Koto and other Muslim traditional rulers in Ijumu and the entire state.
He particularly congratulated the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Ohere on the Sallah celebration and wished him and the Governor good health and Allah’s blessings and protection.

The Traditional Ruler enjoined Muslims to use the celebration to pray for the peace and development of the state and the country at large.

Oba Ayeni told them to imbibe the lessons of Obedience and Sacrifice in their daily lives.

Olujumu Performs Foundation Laying of Chapel and Mosque at His Palace, Promises to Unite Ijumu People

The Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom and Chairman Ijumu Local Government Area Traditional Council, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni says he is committed to the unity of the people of his domain.

Oba Ayeni stated this at the foundation laying of a Church and Mosque at his palace Saturday at Iyara.

According to him, there can be no unity in an atmosphere of rancour and acrimony, saying the peace of Ijumu Kingdom is his priority.

The Ijumu Paramount Ruler said as King Solomon in the Bible built an Altar for God, he has decided to build worship centres for both religions as a symbol of oneness and unity of Ijumu sons and daughters.

In his word, “When I ascended the throne, the first thing I did was to build a palace and Council Hall. But the Hall is yet to be completed. I asked God why and He said I needed to build a place of Worship for him and that is what we are doing today.”

He stated that the worship centres will be completed on or before December this year and expressed gratitude to God and all that attended the ceremony.

Earlier the Coordinator of the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, Reverend Lawrence Agboola said the ceremony expressed delight over the development, describing it as first of its kind in the history of the area.

“Another history is being made in Ijumu and it will be remembered in Ijumu land.” he said.

Reverend Agboola assured that the association will join hands with the Monarch to move Ijumu to enviable heights.

The Chief Imam of Iyamoye, Alhaji Mohammed Garba while commending Oba Ayeni for the gesture tasked the people of Ijumu to avoid hatred and embrace love to move the area forward.
