*NECO RELEASES NOV/DEC 2018 EXAMINATION RESULTS

The National Examinations Council, (NECO), has released the result of the 2018 November/December Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for external candidates.

The Acting Registrar, NECO, Mr Abubakar Gana, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Friday.

According to Gana, 59,963 candidates registered for the examination and were examined in about 28 subject areas.

He noted that a total of 37,069 candidates representing 62.48 per cent got five credits and above including English and Mathematics, while 47,031 candidates, representing 79.27 per cent got five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics.

While giving further breakdown of the performance of candidates, he said that 57,842 sat for English Language out of which 44,497, representing 76.93 got either distinction or credit.

He added that 57,275 sat for Mathematics, out of which 47,151 representing 82.32 per cent got either distinction or credit.

“A comparative analysis of candidates, who scored five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics for 2017 and 2018 shows 56.79 per cent for 2017 and 62.48 per cent for 2018.

“This represents an increase of 5.69 per cent,” he said.

On irregularities during the exercise, Gana said that there was an upward trend in candidates’ involvement in examinations malpractice as compared to 2017.

According to him, a total of 12,084 candidates were caught cheating as against 4,425 in 2017.

He said the increase in cases of exam malpractice reflects the desperation by candidates seeking to cut corners and the determination of the council to apprehend culprits in line with its zero tolerance for examination malpractice.

He noted that candidates cheated more in mathematics, English language, Biology and Economics subject areas because those subjects seem to pose problems for candidates.

Gana, however, enjoined candidates to note that result checker cards would no longer be used to check results.

*He urged all the candidates that participated in the examination to log on to the council’s website-www.neco.gov.ng and click on NECO results to purchase a token that could be used to access their results.*

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the November/December SSCE is usually conducted for external candidates unlike the June/July SSCE, which is mainly conducted for school based candidates .

Kogi State Security Adviser Urges Bunu People to Vote Wemi Jones

Comdr. Jerry Omodara (Rtd), the State Security Adviser to Kogi State Government,* a true Bunu son bears his mind on the need for Bunu to unite, notwithstanding their political differences.

As we are on a match again, getting closer day by day to making choices to elect leaders that will represent us in the next four years, *Comdr. Jerry* said it is expected politically that we all think differently and make our decisions of who to cast our votes for. He explained that there are those things that will shape our opinions dictating our choices, sentiments inclusive.

But that there is a need for all Bunu sons and daughters to set aside sentiments, political differences, etc to massively canvass, support and vote for a worthy Bunu son – *Wemi Jones* in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

In his words *Omodara* opened up : “I have no choice but to make this public that, I made up my mind to contest for Kabba /Bunu /Ijumu Federal Constituency, I was prepared, ready and to seek the consent of my people. I started the consultation and one of the people I told was *Wemi Jones* and he told me, he too was going to contest. Reasons adduced by both of us was that, it was the turn of Bunu to produce a worthy son of Bunu to represent us at the Green Chamber, as we last had the opportunity between 2003 – 2007 ”

Further, he said,” the choice is now ours to either vote or reject our own. That will also determine the future of Bunu District and our youths especially. We must also remember that politics can only be better and inclusive for uptimal development, cooperation and better synergy if a single party occupies both the Presidency and the two National Assembly seats. ”

*Comdr. Omodara* therefore, urged Bunu people to come out enmass to support and vote their son *Wemi Jones, APC Candidate for House of Representatives, Kabba /Bunu /Ijumu Federal Constituency come February 16th, 2019.* *We can not afford to fail now, failure to get it this time will take us another 12 years. Some university students have expressed mixed reactions following the suspension of the three-month old strike by the Academic Staff Union of Students (ASUU). ASUU strike Reports have it that the strike was suspended on Thursday, Feb. 7, after a conciliatory meeting between ASUU and representatives of the Federal Government led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige. One week to election? Are they looking for ways to get students back to school and use them for election thuggery? Students shine your eyes ooo. Don’t be used.” @Mayowasam1999 said “It is really a good step by the government, but we all know if there were no elections they won’t attend to it. I just pray we don’t go back to where we’re coming from after the election.” Meanwhile, others expressed readiness to return to school. @Bams_Jnr tweeted: “ASUU has finally called off the strike, yay!” Strike:

@Tchinedvu tweeted: “Finally ASUU strike is over, I can now finish this 400L in peace.” Nifemi Adebowale, who just gained admission into the Federal University of Technology, Akure told NAN he was happy to finally start his university education, as his peers in other institutions were now ahead of him.

“My parents advised me to start working to keep myself busy till the strike is called off.

“I am just happy that finally, I can resume school since I gained admission into the university last year,” he said.
